Health Canada has issued two recalls for children’s clothing over the weekend – one with a flammable hazard and the other a strangulation hazard.

The first is five variations of Childrensalon Ltd Children’s Sleepwear, which the authority is urging people to stop using immediately and to contact Childrensalon Ltd to receive a full refund.

Health Canada said the products present a fire hazard as the garments “do not meet the flammability requirements for children’s sleepwear of the Children’s Sleepwear Regulations.

“Loose-fitting children’s sleepwear can contact ignition sources such as stove elements, candles, and matches more readily than tight-fitting sleepwear, and once ignited will burn rapidly, potentially resulting in severe burns to large areas of the child’s body.”

In a second recall, Health Canada is recalling the Fairechild Mabli Smock AW21 Raincoat due to strangulation hazard

The authority is urging people to immediately remove the drawstring from the outerwear to eliminate the hazard.

The raincoats were sold from sizes 1/2Y (youth) to 10/12Y in three colours (slate grey, duck yellow and brown). The smock pulls over the head and has brass snaps at the neckline, as well as on both sides of the coat. It has a drawstring hood and side pockets.

“Drawstrings on children's upper outerwear can become caught on playground equipment, fences, or other objects and result in strangulation, or in the case of a vehicle, the child being dragged,” said Health Canada.

Consumers may also return the item for a refund.

For more information, consumers can contact Fairechild Inc. by telephone at 1-902-760-2421 from 7:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. ADT Monday through Friday, or by email.
