To a certain type of person—and you know who you are—there’s nothing more seductive than the idea of cozying up around a campfire, complete with marshmallows on sticks, warming libations, and a blanket of stars above you, with not another person for miles. While that image is not the only one that illustrates glamping, it’s surely a compelling one. These days you can glamp anywhere—hot or cold climates, mountains, deserts, forests, or beaches. It’s the catch-all term that’s become so popular to describe an experience more luxurious than straight-up camping in a tent with sleeping bags. There are many takes on glamping in the U.S. and abroad—and countless price points—with many in absolutely sublime locations that scream honeymoon bucket list.

One prerequisite for choosing a glamping honeymoon is that you both love the great outdoors. After all, enjoying Mother Nature is exactly the point. These usually tented, but sometimes treehouse accommodations, often don’t have TVs or land-line telephones. But, they do have full bathrooms, plush beds, electricity, fire pits, and, oftentimes, countless other amenities, perks, and facilities (think swimming pools, dining options, and sometimes even spas). So pick a landscape and an adventure, bust out your hiking boots and daypacks (or add them to your registry or shopping list), and go spot some shooting stars. Here, our top picks for a domestic glamping honeymoon.

Glamp as the French do in the verdant Adirondacks of New York state! This newer destination is a quiet, leafy escape with all the trappings of a well-equipped apartment with a rustic-chic ambience. The platform tents have large wooden decks draped with bistro lights and plenty of seating to pull up around the fire pit or cozy around a wood-burning stove inside. It’s $55 to request a specific tent, but for the most romantic, secluded views out to the woods, it’s worth the splurge to ask for 419 or 429. There’s plenty to do in the area (think hiking, boat trips on Lake George, sightseeing, artisan cheese tasting) but it’s easy to stay onsite for a couple days, swimming in the free-form pool, noshing on crepes and pizzas from the cafe, and roasting s’mores or making other treats from the camp store. The French glamping company has also recently opened a resort in California’s Angeles National Forest called Huttopia Paradise Springs, on the site of a Prohibition-era mountain getaway for Old Hollywood stars, complete with the original pool where the first Tarzan actor trained for the Olympics.

It’s hard to imagine anything cooler than waking up inside a yurt that overlooks the spectacular coastline of Big Sur. At this glamping resort, the view is on full display from the beautiful canvas and wood structures with king beds, skylights, and private decks. If you’re up for leaning into camping, there are two incredibly unique structures well worth spending a couple nights in sleeping bags. The best panoramas are had from the Human Nest, a life-size piece of wood art built by local artist Jayson Fann with a picnic table, an outdoor cook station, and a futon pad inside, and Twig Hut, also hand-woven by Fann. Both these one-of-a-kind campsites come with the possibility of wildlife crashing your honeymoon, but the adventure is sure to be an epic one for the books.

In addition to charming cabins, this massive Missouri wilderness resort’s Camp Long Creek includes beautiful glamping tents. Under a canvas roof erected like a teepee with wooden logs, the units have wood floors, king beds, heating, and cooling. Fire pits and outdoor tubs are also available for use. They’re as romantic as it comes, especially considering the views—over Table Rock Lake or immersed in the woods. The decor enhances the sense of place, with beaded artwork, antlers, and cool chairs on the deck. Couples can enjoy all the pleasures of the lake, too, by renting boats, enjoying water sports, or fishing.

Heavenly is one way to describe Crystal Sky Camp, a brand new partnership between Crystal Mountain—in the shadow of the iconic Mt. Rainier—and Under Canvas. The exclusive 6,000-foot mountaintop glamping destination is reached via two chairlift rides, and truly represents the best of Pacific Northwest (especially the regionally sourced and foraged food). There are 28 light, airy safari-style tents with deluxe beds, wood-burning stoves, and WiFi, plus a main lobby tent with a bar. You’ll never get bored, not with activities like alpine paddleboarding, mountain biking, and guided foraging outings on offer, as well as mountain sunrises and stars to watch. (And speaking of Under Canvas, the prolific glamping company has a slew of resorts that are the perfect jumping off point for an outdoorsy honeymoon in places like Yellowstone, Zion, the Great Smoky Mountains, Grand Canyon, and Acadia National Parks.)

Fans of The Notebook might notice the setting of this dreamy honeymoon treehouse looks familiar—that’s because historic Wadmalaw Island was one of the filming locations for the movie. On a 30-acre private waterfront property, you can live out your Ryan Gosling- and Rachel McAdams-fueled fantasies in the beautifully appointed treehouse with dimmable antique chandeliers, a vinyl record player, copper tub, pizza oven, outdoor rope-swing hanging bed, hot tub, movie theater under the stars, and plenty of twinkle lights.

This desert-y Southern California development is a dream of a glamping destination for the design minded. It’s a collection of adorably shaped tiny huts on wheels with canvas roofs and lots of glass. There are fire pits with Adirondack chairs, picnic tables, a communal kitchen, and murals. In the warm summer months, there's even a cowboy pool. Bathrooms are shared, so you have to be up for that, but the setting and vibe is unlike anywhere else.

The original glamping concept can be found at this 37,000-acre Montana resort. In fact, it was the first to actually coin the term in the early 2000s. Their 36 stunning tents—think Wild West vibes with vintage touches and deep soaking tubs—are divided into six different camps along the Blackfoot River, open from mid-May to mid-October. The Moonlight Camp is the most secluded, while the Cliffside Camp has epic views. Pinnacle even has honeymoon tents. They each offer something special stylistically and setting-wise, though all have camping butlers who can bring anything you need at a moment’s notice. The bathrooms are divine, and there are chefs cooking up feasts in each dining pavilion. When it comes to activities, think classic summer camp: hiking, horseback riding, shooting, fly-fishing (with a guide and a cooler full of beer), rappelling, swimming, and all sorts of water sports. Besides a visit to Spa Town for massages, there’s no question a morning hot air balloon ride with mimosas will take the epic honeymoon cake.

If your idea of a good time is a vintage Airstream, then AutoCamp Yosemite is your perfect glamping honeymoon (though Autocamp has locations in other really cool places, too). The large mid-century modern–styled clubhouse sets the tone for super-slick suites inside those iconic silver bullet–shaped RVs. The vehicles are outfitted with not only full bathrooms, kitchenettes, and private outdoor hang space, but also plush bathrobes and toiletries by cult-favorite clean skincare line Ursa Major. There are also luxury tents and sweet cabins, but whichever accommodation you choose, couples can use fire pits, mountain bikes, a seasonal pool, and a freshwater pond. To really enjoy the natural locale, there’s a daily shuttle into Yosemite National Park.

Romance is in the woods amongst 20 acres of redwood trees that populate the glamping section of this five-star resort in Big Sur. Beautiful wood and canvas tents feature custom mattresses with dreamy linens and stone fire pits. Plus, there’s an Airstream snack bar selling wine, beer, and other treats. At this glamping resort, s’mores fixings and wood are available, as well as a fancy bath house with heated floors. A honeymoon package includes a private guided hike with picnic lunch and a surprise welcome amenity.

If you’d love to take a safari for your honeymoon but Africa is not in the budget, this Sonoma glamping experience is the next best thing. The conservation breeding facility is even dubbed the “Sonoma Serengeti.” Tents are imported from Botswana and feature gorgeous wood accents and a private viewing deck for wilderness immersion. There are also safari drives to get up close and personal with wildlife including giraffes, monkeys, cheetah, flamingos, and rhinos. Newlyweds should also indulge in a couples’ massage and vino from the vineyards surrounding this exotic escape.

If you’re not ready to commit to more than one night spent in a tent but still want to experience it, La Quinta Resort & Club has the perfect solution. With a minimum three-night stay, couples can book the Camp’d Out Joshua Tree Experience, which includes a single night in a luxe camp setup with Waldorf Astoria bedding, overnight butler service, a prepared dinner, s’mores, and morning coffee. The Beverly Wilshire’s Luxury Urban Glamping Experience involves camping above Los Angeles' Rodeo Drive on a private terrace in a 10-foot tent equipped with a Four Seasons bed, fur rugs, a chandelier, and fireplace. There’s even an eight-course tasting menu, caviar, vintage Champagne and 24K s’mores. Montage Los Cabos, too, offers their Dos Arroyos Campsite for a glittering night of glamping with dinner under the stars, a camping attendant, and activities like archery and paintball.
